About United States and US Education System

USA remains the most popular destination for international students and is still perceived to provide the most prestigious and valuable education among all international study destinations. The higher education in USA is divided into three study level i.e. Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral degrees. A student attending a college or university, studying in United States at undergraduate level, takes about four years to earn a bachelor’s degree. The second level of US education system or graduate degree usually takes one to three years to complete. On the other hand, it may takes three years or more to earn a Doctoral degree in USA for international students.

Requirements to Study in USA

The basic documents you will require to apply for USA student visa from India includes your passport, your recent photographs, academic certificates from high school to last qualification, proof of English language proficiency (IELTS/ TOEFL). You will also need to provide proof of financial support for your U.S. student visa application and you can prove funds required to study in USA by showing any of the following documents like educational loan form financial institution, a bank draft or bank statements showing the total tuition and living expenses for one year.

Courses and Intakes in USA for International Students

USA has the world’s largest international student population with over 800,000 because it is home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world. The universities in USA offer a huge number of courses and degrees in various field of study. USA provides degree in almost every field like, Arts and humanities, Business & Management, Engineering & Technology, Healthcare and medicines, Natural and social science etc.

The universities in USA have two intakes for international students namely fall and spring. Most of the courses begin in the fall semester while few courses accept application for spring semester as well. August is the beginning of the academic year, so students are suggested to apply for fall semester than spring semester that begins in January.

Colleges and Universities in USA

There is over 4,000 degree-granting institutions of higher learning in the USA. It has various state colleges and universities where a state school is supported and run by a state or local government. Each of the 50 USA state is operating at least one state university and various several state colleges. The private schools and universities are privately run by a branch of the government where tuition cost will be usually higher than state schools for international students. United States Community colleges are two-year colleges that award an associate degrees as well as certification in a particular field of study. On the other hand technological institutions provide at least four years of study in technical fields. There are around 1,700 public and 2,500 private institutions in USA.

Work Opportunity in USA for International students

OnInternational students in USA are allowed to work on the campus for up to 20 hours a week and during extended holidays, breaks and summer session, you can work up to 40 hours a week. After completing six month to one year of studies, international students in United States can work off-campus provided you must qualify for a training program and have good academics. You can work off-campus through programs like OPT, CPT and OPT through STEM.

Cost of studying in USA for International Students

The cost of studying in USA for international students depends on the type of institution i.e. public or private universities and school. The tuition fee for international students in USA is generally low in public universities than private institution. The tuition cost of doing an undergraduate degree in United States ranges from $10,000 to $50,000. On the other hand the tuition cost for doing a graduate degree or research program in United States ranges from $10,000 to $70,000 depending upon your chosen field of study.

In order to stay in Canada, you will require around $10,200 to cover your living expenses for one year. This living cost will include your food, accommodation, transportation, medical insurance, clothing and books.
